For Blog's Sake

It's halloween. My least favourite day in all the year. Perhaps because it reminds me of overeating candy as a young boy and getting tummie aches, or because it links in my mind to the most evil of days. Evil comes from Devil, and he certainly isn't my favourite of fallen angels.

Don't get me wrong, it's always fun to dress up and pretend to be someone you aren't. In fact, so many people love it that they do it all the time. I know from drama days that it is often easier to be someone you aren't in a public setting than it is to be yourself. They put on this mask and pretend to be a certain way, then when they get home and are alone or with their families, the mask comes off and they are a completely different person.

I wonder if people often take that approach to being 'like Christ'. If you can take the role of being a Christian, then you are simply in character...able to go in front of anyone because you know that if you are confronted by someone who questions you or makes you feel uncomfortable because you don't really know the answers to their questions, you can just take the mask off and say "Here I am! I'm just joshin' ya!"

God wants us to be more than just actors/actresses. We don't want to show Jesus Christ as a mask that we wear because that means we could put Him on and take Him off as we please. Instead, we want Him to be a permanent part of who we are at all times. If we do that, we would be proud to let Him be seen in us. We wouldn't want to hide who we really are.
